Tip of the Day: The Damage Isn't Done

With warm weather on the horizon, you’ll undoubtedly be doing a lot bleaching, lifting and highlighting on your clients. But blonding can wreak havoc on hair if certain precautions aren’t taken. To keep damage to a minimum, ProRituals by Jingles Global Artistic Director Terrence Michael Renk suggests adding a little something extra to your color formulas. “When it comes to blondes, the addition of essential fatty acids to the formula will replenish the moisture that is depleted from the hair, and assists with color penetration and scalp protection,” he says. Here is Terrence’s formula to create an ultra-light shade like Julianne Hough’s—with no harm done! (Tip of the Day from www.behindthchair.com)

Tip of the Day: Get on the Campaign Trail

What’s that you say? You’re not promoting popular color trends to your clients? Well, you’re missing a huge opportunity to make buku bucks, says Colortrak Artistic and Technical Director Gregory Alan. “Trends like ombré present an unbelievable opportunity to grow your color business,” he says. He recommends building a campaign around a trend to captivate and excite your clients. “A great way to do this is with visuals; display posters, signs, etc., throughout your salon to create visual inspiration for you clients,” he explains. “Also, make sure to name your campaign to personalize it. Rather than calling the trend ‘ombré’ give the trend a unique name and sell it as a technical skill rather than a look. It becomes something you clients definitely can’t get from a box!” Finally he adds, “By creating a specialized campaign tied around the latest trends, it adds value to the service and gives you the confidence to charge for it at a premium price point.” (Tip of the Day from www.behindthechair.com)
